SUMMARY
At Item Alert, we want you to have a better eBay searching experience. To that end, we are committed to ensuring that your visits to, and interactions with, our website and services, are robust, useful, and secure. We have created this Privacy Policy as a step towards the transparency that will help achieve these goals. By using Item Alert, you are indicating that you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information, as described below.
PRIVACY STATEMENT IN DEPTH
We are committed to your privacy and we take it super super seriously. This statement is intended to provide you with information and understanding about how Item Alert collects and safeguards personal information that it gathers through the normal course of its operation.
COLLECTED INFORMATION
Through the user account creation process we acquire an email address and a username, as well as a password. This information is stored securely in our servers. And yes, we actually need that info in order for you to use the site.
THIRD PARTY ANALYTICS
We use Google Analytics. That's it. Actually we don't even use GA anymore. And no Facebook or Twitter or Instagram crap either, of course.
COOKIES
Cookies are used in the following ways:
  • We set a cookie when you log in. That's how we know you're logged in, DUH.
  • On the server-side, we keep track of the searches you are currently running.
ADS
We don't run any ads because we actually care about the UI/UX of this website and its load-time and aesthetics are constantly on our minds. In fact, as of mid 2020, we host 100% of the code that runs except for some hCaptcha and eBay stuff that is required to defeat bots and run your searches. No third-party CDNs! Cloud computing was a mistake.
MARKETING
We don't sell or market or transfer your data anywhere because we love you and care about your digital well-being.
FTC AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE
When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. Affiliate programs and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network.
SECURITY
We use HTTPS that gets an A from ssllabs as of the date below, which we're pretty damn proud of. We also individually salt and hash your passwords (and no, it's not SHA1, you're welcome) because we're not IDIOTS. None of that plaintext shit. We also made sure to guard against the top OWASP vulnerabilities. Also, we don't use WordPress or struts or PHP so please stop throwing your shitty script kiddie exploits at us.
IMPORTANT DATA DEFINITIONS
Yes we are both the data processor and data controller.
DATA PROTECTION OFFICER
Welp, I guess that's me too. I don't even get a raise for this. You can ruin my day by contacting me at the email address on the contact page.
EXTERNAL LINKS
There are various links throughout this website that may take you to the website or services of another company or entity. When you follow such links, you should understand that this Privacy Policy no longer applies. Jesus, this isn't that complicated.
LOCATION
Our servers are located in the United States of America. By using Item Alert, you agree to have your data transferred, handled, manhandled, controlled, dominated, processed, gently caressed, swaddled, and stored in the U.S.
DATA PORTABILITY
You can download your saved searches at any time on the saved searches page. Pretty cool, eh?
CORRECTING YOUR ACCOUNT
You literally have the ability to control everything about your account. But if you still wanna be a hard-ass about it, please email us!
CLOSING YOUR ACCOUNT
You can close your account at any time by deleting it on the account page. And all your searches and data will be deleted too. Go ahead and do it. Do it. See if we care.
LOGS
Yeah. Ok fine. We log what's going on with the website. Because the Russians and the Chinese throw all sorts of digital feces at our server every day.
CHANGES IN THIS PRIVACY STATEMENT
Item Alert reserves the right to change its privacy policy. But probably it'll be some new asinine law that makes it happen.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER
If the NSA or a valid court order or some PATRIOT Act / NSA / FISA bullshit requires that we hand over your data (what the hell are you searching for?!), then we gotta do what we gotta do. But we can honestly say (oh snap a warrant canary!) that Item Alert has never received an order under Section 215 of the USA Patriot Act. That would be pretty dope tho.
CONTACT US
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding our privacy policy, please contact us using the link at the top of the page. Literally 1 person in the last 6 years has emailed us about this page, and it was just to say LOL.
TL;DR
Look, we care a lot about you, and your data, and your security, and your privacy. We are never going to give it up, and we're never going to let you down. And we're certainly not going to run around and give your stuff to Facebook or marketing agencies or any of those clowns.
